Research Project: Data Cleaning, Visualisation and
Investigation of Price Prediction Models
Gresham is a multi-billion-dollar asset manager with a long and successful history in commodities and future markets. Thomas Babbedge is Chief Scientist and Deputy Head of Systematic Strategies at Gresham Investment Management LLC. Thomas was a post-doctoral research in the Astrophysics group at Imperial College London working on galaxy evolution, modelling and observations. Thomas holds a PhD in Extragalactic Astrophysics from Imperial College London and a Masters in Physics with Astronomy from Bristol University.

Gresham has hosted two DISCnet students so far, with placements exploring a number of different projects such as data-cleaning/filtering, investigation of price prediction models, portfolio construction approaches and data visualisation. The placements provided students with experience of working in a small, entrepreneurial, and collegial team and gave insights into the world of systematic trading and the mathematics, statistics, and data science underpinning the qualitative finance view of markets.
